Michael Kirkbride NEAC

Born 1959 in County Durham, England, painter and tutor Michael Kirkbride is a graduate of The Royal Academy Schools, London. His paintings evolve from the slippages between observation, invention and visual memory. They are essentially suppositions – a combination of the real and the not really there. Drawing is at the centre of his practise with the human figure as the dominant structural motif.

Michael exhibits with the NEAC at The Mall Galleries, London where he has received several prizes for his work. He is also a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and currently exhibits with Panter and Hall, Pall Mall, London.

He was Senior Lecturer in Visual Studies at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts from 1996 – 2011. In 2004 he was elected a member of the New English Art Club (NEAC), becoming the Curator of its Education Program in 2014. He currently leads a series of life drawing classes and specialist workshops for the Royal Academy of Arts’ Education Programme. He has taught drawing and painting at all levels including postgraduate. Michael also currently teaches at Hampstead School of Art and runs his own private classes in North London. Additionally, he teaches drawing on a range of under-graduate and post-graduate specialisms at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), London. More recently Michael has led workshops and exhibited at Eton College, Windsor. His work is in many private collections both at home and abroad.
