Mia Underwood

Mia Underwood, born in Hampstead, London in 1976, pursued her artistic education by completing a Foundation course at Chelsea College of Art and a BA degree at London College of Printing and Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Notably, Mia is the daughter of the renowned fine artist, George Underwood.

Driven by a profound connection to nature, Mia’s artwork centres on the concept of biophilia. She explores different mediums to create specific textures, often favouring an aged appearance reminiscent of bygone eras. Recently, Mia has embarked on a new artistic journey, utilising antique objects sourced from Ardingly antique fairs as her canvas. She finds particular inspiration in the weathered textures of these objects, each bearing the marks of years of use. Mia is fascinated by the hidden stories and echoes from the past embedded within these objects, which lend her painted surfaces a unique patina and captivating charm.

“I want to give the viewer a sense of resolve and power when they look at my work. The story and mystery is for them to work out.”

Mia’s artwork has been showcased at several prestigious venues, including The Wing Art Gallery in Wadhurst, Imagine Gallery in Suffolk, Putney Pies in London, Paxton & Glew in Brighton, and Do Not Obstruct in Brighton.
