Annabel Carey

Annabel Carey

Annabel Carey began exhibiting professionally in 1984, since which time she has been invited to take part in numerous exhibitions at galleries and festivals, working with great success in oils, acrylic and watercolour. Ms Carey has exhibited at the Royal West of England Academy and her acrylic paintings exploring psychological landscapes were selected by the Royal Watercolour Society for a number of exhibitions at the Bankside Gallery, London.

In February 2004 Ms Carey and her husband, the artist David Birch, were invited to join the Rubio Quartet of Flanders in a celebration of the String Quartets of Shostakovich which took place at the Michael Tippett Centre in Bath and later at Goldsmith’s College, London, at which the artists were invited to talk about their work.

In further innovative work, over a period of twenty years Ms Carey has developed the technique of batik, using it in a fine art form. The project “Spirit of Stones” resulted in a touring exhibition from Aberdeen to Truro and was followed by “The Time of Trees”, a unique concept using diptychs and triptychs. Her latest work in oils is narrative and a comment on our current ways of life, juxtaposing contemporary with old, often in a witty and perceptive way.
