Contemporary Art Gallery in the Cotswolds
Fosse Gallery was originally established in 1980 in Stow-on-the-Wold in the Cotswolds, rooted in a serious commitment to British art. Today Fosse Gallery works with collectors internationally through exhibitions and online sales. It is often described as one of the most important UK art galleries and is internationally recognised, serving customers worldwide.
The gallery is now based in a brand-new, bespoke home office in the Cotswold town of Chipping Norton.
All I know is that the seemingly simple act of purchasing a painting has been so impactful — not only in my home, but in the journey of my life. In turn, this is what I want to give to you: the opportunity to acquire beautiful paintings by our wonderful artists at Fosse Gallery, from our home to yours.

Mick Rooney RA
Mick Rooney RA, was a friend and exhibitor at Fosse Gallery for nearly four decades. When I joined the gallery in the late 1990’s he was very much part of the exhibiting programme and had been introduced by his friend and mentor Carel Weight RA. He was intrinsically part of the rich and diverse British figurative and narrative scene that ran deep in the veins of the gallery, and later on became the undisputed king of narrative painting in the UK.
When I took over the ownership of Fosse in 2006 Mick and I formed a formidable partnership, all new paintings from his studio would come to Fosse for the countless exhibitions we staged from the moment on.
The exhibitions were magical, all telling a different story, always authentically Rooney and very well received. The work contained a poetic narrative, it had a humanist feel, mankind always central to his core themes. Inspired by stories from his own personal history, travels, literature, small events of the everyday. They explored the inner mythologies, neurosis, dreams and secrets that made up so much of today’s social landscape. He was a poet, an observer, a storyteller in paint.
This exhibition Figuratively Speaking carries a poignancy as it is the final mixed exhibition to which Mick contributed his creative input, making this show a very special farewell and celebration of his extraordinary artistic legacy.
