Celia Montague is a portrait and landscape painter based in Oxford and Venice.
She graduated from St. Hugh’s College, Oxford with an M.A. in Modern and Mediaeval Languages. She was a barrister, then an actress, before embracing painting full-time. Studies in life-drawing over a number of years at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art in Oxford led to her taking the Portrait Diploma for painters at Heatherley’s School of Fine Art in London, followed by a further two years of life-painting at the Prince’s Drawing School.
As a landscape painter she paints directly from the subject, now mainly in the Cotswolds, and in Venice where she spends several months of the year. She has exhibited regularly in London, Oxford and Gloucestershire since graduating from Heatherley’s, and her portraits and landscapes are held in private collections in Britain, the USA, Bermuda and Singapore. Most recently her work was selected for the Lynn Painter Stainers Prize exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London.
